New Texas Resident Vehicle Registration
If you are moving to Texas and need to transfer registration you will first need to get proper liability insurance form a Texas approved agent. The next step is to get the vehicle inspected at an approved inspection facility. http://www.dps.texas.gov/rsd/vi/VIactiveStationLocator/default.aspx
You will then need to bring your insurance card, the vehicle inspection report and the title of the vehicle to either the local tax office or a DMV regional service center. https://www.txdmv.gov/regional-service-centers You will need to complete an application for Texas registration (form 130-U). Expect to pay $52 in state fees for the new registration, plus any county fees for your locality. You may also be responsible for some sales tax fees of up to $90 if your previous state’s sales tax was less than your new Texas sales tax rate.
Be aware that the Texas DMV does not issue drivers licenses. So if you are moving from out of state you will need to apply for a new license with the Texas DPS. Click here for more information.
