New Hampshire Vehicle Registration Renewal

Renew Vehicle Registration in New Hampshire

Vehicle registration fees are due annually in New Hampshire. Typically, registration is due during your birth month.

Registration renewal in New Hampshire is a 2-part process. Fees are due:

  • At the town/city level.

AND

  • For the state Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

1.   City/Town Renewal

To renew a New Hampshire vehicle registration, you must first pay fees through your town or city clerk. Local municipalities may have different rules on how early you can renew your registration.

Some municipalities allow you to process your renewal online or by mail.

If you renew in person, you may be asked to provide:

  • Your driver’s license or ID.
  • Your renewal notice and/or current registration.
  • Payment for the applicable fees.

Most local municipalities will allow you to process your state fees at the same time for an additional fee. However, you can skip this fee if you decide to renew using a DMV drop box.

Be sure to keep the documentation given by your city clerk--you’ll need it for the next step.

2.   DMV Drop Box Renewal

Once you’ve completed the city/town portion of your renewal, you can pay your state fees at a NH DMV drop box.

You’ll need:

  • The completed portion of your city/town renewal.
  • A photocopy of your New Hampshire ID.
  • The state portion of your renewal fee. Make checks payable to “State of NH-DMV” OR your phone number so that you can be reached for credit card payment.

Enclose all items in an envelope and submit them at a DMV drop box

Your new registration and plate stickers will be mailed to your address.
