Renew a Mississippi Driver’s License or ID
Mississippi residents must renew their licenses or ID cards every 4-8 years through the Department of Public Safety (DPS). You can renew:
- Online.
- In person.
- By mail (military members and college students residing out-of-state only).
MS Online Driver’s License and ID Card Renewal
Many Mississippi residents can renew online, provided their license or ID*:
- Is a non-driver ID, Class R, or Class D Light Commercial License.
- Has NOT been expired for more than 1 year OR will expire in 6 months or less.
- Does NOT have any restrictions on it.
You must also have a valid photo on file with the DPS.
To renew online:
- Visit the DPS online portal for license or ID card
- Enter your:
- ID or license number.
- Social security number (SSN) (last 4 digits).
- Full name and birthdate.
- Provide your address.
- Register to vote or update your voter information (optional).
- Update or confirm your organ donation status.
- Provide payment for the renewal fees.

Renew an MS Driver’s License or ID in Person
You can renew your license or ID at any Driver Service Bureau (DSB) location. There, you may be asked for your:
- Current license.
- Address.
- SSN.
If your current license does NOT have a gold star on it, see “Mississippi REAL ID Checklist” about additional requirements for obtaining a REAL ID-compliant ID.
Renew a Mississippi Driver’s License or ID by Mail
Mail-in license renewal is available only for military personnel and college students residing out-of-state.
If you are in the military and live in Mississippi but are currently residing out-of-state, you must provide:
- A photocopy of an official government document such as a:
- Driver’s license.
- Social security card.
- Document issued by the government displaying the full 9-digit social security number (SSN).
- Military orders placing you at your location (the first page is sufficient).
- A letter from your commanding officer that includes your:
- Name.
- Driver’s license number.
- Deployment status.
- A certified check made payable to the “Mississippi Department of Public Safety” for the applicable amount.
If you’re a college student residing out-of-state, you must provide a:
- Photocopy of your student ID card.
- Photocopy of your license or social security card.
- Notarized letter on official letterhead from the university stating you are a full-time student.
- Certified check made payable to the “Mississippi Department of Public Safety” for the applicable amount.

- License renewal (4-year): $24.
- Expired license renewal (4-year): $25.
- License renewal (8-year): $47.
- Renewal of an endorsement: $5.
