Renew a Driver’s License in Idaho

Idaho IDs and licenses expire every year, 3 years, 4 years, or 8 years, depending on age and the amount paid at last renewal or issuance.

For eligible residents the Idaho Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) allows residents to renew an Idaho license or ID:

Online.

In person.

Obtaining a REAL ID for the first time requires residents to visit the DMV and present additional documents.

Renew an Idaho License Online

The quickest way to renew an Idaho license is through the DMV online portal. However, there are some eligibility requirements you must meet if you wish to take this option.

Online renewal is available for Idaho residents that:

Are U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
Have a valid ID or license OR their identification has been expired less than 25 months.
Wish to renew for 4 years.
Are between 21 and 69 years old.
Renewed for 4 years or less last renewal.
Do NOT need to add or remove an endorsement.
Do NOT wish to change their name.

To renew online, you must visit the Access Idaho online portal and:

Login to your account.
- If you do not have an account, you can create one using your email address.
Input the requested information. This may require your:
- Driver’s license or ID number.
- Social security number (SSN).
Provide credit card information for payment. There will be a small additional online processing fee.

You can expect to receive your new identification card in the mail within 12-14 business days. The new ID will use the same picture as your last card.

Renew ID License in Person

You can also renew your Idaho ID or license at your local DMV office. To renew, visit the office and be ready to provide your:

Current license or proof of identification.
SSN.
Proof of medical certification (for commercial drivers).
Payment for the renewal fee.

NOTE: There is a small additional fee incurred for renewing your ID online.

Non-driver ID (under 18 years old to 21 years old): $10.
4-year non-driver ID: $10.
8-year non-driver ID: $20.
1-year standard license: $15.
3-year standard license: $25.
4-year standard license: $30.
8-year standard license: $55.
1-year commercial driver’s license (CDL): $15.
3-year CDL: $30.
4-year CDL: $40.
