Renew Idaho Vehicle Registration

There are several ways Idaho drivers can renew their car registrations. You can renew:

  • Online
  • By mail.
  • In person.

Iowa residents should receive a renewal notice shortly before their current registration expires. Registration fees are due annually.

Renew Idaho Registration Online

The fastest way to renew your vehicle registration is by using the Access Idaho online portal.

To renew online: 

  1. Visit the online portal.
  2. Login to your Access account. If you don’t have an account, you must create one using your email address.
  3. Provide the requested information. This will include:
  • The license plate number.
  • The vehicle identification number (VIN).
  • An Idaho address.
  • An Employer Identification Number (EIN) if the vehicle is registered to a business.
  1. Provide payment information, such as a paypal account or a credit/debit card and billing address. The DMV accepts:
  • VISA.
  • Mastercard.
  • American Express.

Your registration will be mailed to the address provided.

Renew ID Registration by Mail

Idaho residents also have the option to renew their vehicle registration by mail. To renew by mail, simply:

  1. Follow the instructions provided on the renewal notice received in the mail and complete and sign the enclosed form.
  2. Enclose a check for payment of the amount requested with your completed form.
  3. Mail your items to the local Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) office. This address is provided on your renewal notice.

Renew Idaho Registration in Person

In-person registration transactions are completed at your local DMV office. When renewing a vehicle, you may be asked to provide your:

  • Identification
  • VIN.
  • License plate number.
  • Renewal notice.
  • Payment for the renewal fees and taxes.

Idaho Vehicle Registration Renewal Fees

Annual registration fees vary based on the type, weight, and age of the vehicle:

  • Passenger vehicles (maximum weight 8,000 pounds):
    • Max 2 years old: $69.
    • 3-6 years old: $57.
    • 7 years old or older: $45.
    • Electric vehicles: Additional $140.
    • Plug-in hybrid vehicles: Additional $75.
