Renew a License in Colorado
Colorado License Renewal
There are a few different ways to renew a Colorado license or ID through the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). You can renew:
- Online*.
- By mail*.
- In person.
*If eligible.
Renew CO License or ID Online or by Mail
You can renew your CO license or ID online or by mail if you(r):
- Renewed in person last time (only applies to customers under 65 years old).
- License or ID has NOT been expired more than a year.
- Do NOT need to change your name.
- Have your social security number (SSN) on file with the DMV.
- Are in good standing with the DMV (have no bad checks on file or outstanding fines).
- Are NOT in the Address Confidentiality Program (ACP).
The following requirements apply to drivers only. To renew a license online or by mail you must:
- Have had an eye exam within the last 3 years.
- Have no outstanding or pending departmental actions on your license.
- Do NOT need to take a written or road exam.
- Have a valid medical card on file with the DMV (for commercial drivers). NOTE: Hazmat endorsements cannot be renewed online.
CO License or ID Online
To renew online, visit the DMV online portal and provide:
- The requested information.
- Your email address.
- A credit or debit card for payment.
Print your temporary license and keep it with you until your permanent card arrives in the mail.
Renew Colorado License or ID by Mail
The renewal process through the mail varies slightly based on whether you are:
- 64 years old or younger. Complete the Driver License or ID Card Renewal (DR 2746)
OR
- 65 years old or older. Complete the Driver License or ID Card Renewal (DR 2330)
Mail the form and check for the applicable fee made payable to the “Colorado Department of Revenue” to:

Renew CO License or ID in Person
To renew in person, visit your local DMV office and provide*:
- Proof of identity.
- Proof of social security.
- Proof of residency (2 documents required).
- Payment for the applicable renewal fee.
You may be required to take a vision exam and take a photo.
*All new Colorado license or ID renewals require REAL ID documentation.
Colorado ID or License Renewal Fees
- CO license renewal: $30.87.
- CO ID card renewal (under 60 years old): $12.67.
- CO ID card renewal (over 60 years old): Free.
- CO commercial driver’s license (CDL) renewal: $17.08.
