Renew Arizona Vehicle Registration

You can renew your Arizona vehicle registration:

  • Online.
  • By phone.
  • In person at a Motor Vehicles Division (MVD) office.

Prior to expiration, you should receive a renewal notice in the mail or email. This notice will help simplify the renewal process, so hold on to it.

If your vehicle requires an emissions test, you can renew up to 3 months before expiration. If your vehicle does not require an emissions exam, you can renew up to 6 months before expiration.

After you complete your transaction, your new registration document and tabs will be mailed to your address. 

NOTE: If you are in the Address Confidentiality Program, you must renew in person. Call (602) 255-0072 to schedule an MVD appointment.

Renew AZ Registration Online

The easiest and quickest way to renew your tabs is online. To renew online, visit the AZ MVD online portal and:

  1. Login or create an account.
  2. Provide your vehicle information. This may include your:
    • License plate number.
    • Vehicle identification number (VIN).
    • Insurance information.
    • Emissions test information (if applicable).
  3. Confirm the vehicle record information.
  4. Confirm the renewal period (1, 2, or 5 years).
  5. Pay the applicable fee.

Renew Arizona Vehicle Registration by Phone

To renew by phone: 

  1. Call (888) 713-3031.
  2. Have your registration form available so you can provide the requested information. This information may include the:
    • License plate number.
    • VIN.
    • Insurance info.
    • Emissions test information (if applicable).
  3. Confirm your address on file is current. If not, you must change your address prior to renewal.
  4. Pay the renewal fee. The MVD accepts:
    • Visa.
    • Mastercard.
    • American Express.
    • Discover.

Renew Arizona Registration in Person

Sometimes, it is necessary to renew your vehicle registration in person at your local MVD office.

There, you may be asked to provide your: 

  • Driver’s license or ID.
  • Proof of insurance.
  • Current registration.
  • Emissions test information (if applicable).
  • Payment for the renewal fee.

AZ Registration Renewal Fees

Registration renewal fees may vary. However, generally you can expect the following fees:

  • A $32 public safety fee.
  • A $1.50 air quality fee.
  • $8 registration fee.
  • A $0.25 air quality compliance fee (depending on location).

If your registration renewal is late, you’ll incur an $8 late fee and an additional $4 fee for each subsequent month your renewal is late. 

AZ drivers will also be charged a vehicle license tax (VLT) upon renewal. Visit the AZ MVD website or view your renewal notice for your total cost.
