According to West Virginia DMV, residents of Charleston, West Virginia, now have a new and more convenient way to get a REAL ID.

The REAL ID Headstart digital service is now available for applicants seeking to beat the May 3, 2023, federal deadline. Applicants can now follow an easy path to upload documents, verify identity, and schedule necessary appointments.

The REAL ID Headstart program uses LexisNexis technology to verify documents for authenticity. This method ensures that documents are approved as quickly as possible. West Virginians are pleased to know that they no longer have to worry about having a scanning process during the appointment.

"The new digital service is giving West Virginians a more convenient alternative. People have been longing for changes, and now they have it," said Commissioner Everett Frazier.

As the May 3 deadline approaches, there will likely be a huge rush to get the REAL ID.
According to data, most West Virginians already have the ID. This fact will likely mitigate long lines and extended waits at the DMV.

People should also remember that they need proper identification for their REAL ID. There is also an additional $10 surcharge attached to the regular fees.

Even though the date has been extended, the commissioner urges everyone who needs to get the new ID to do so as soon as possible. This way, applicants can avoid any last-minute issues that may arise.
