If you have ever lost your driver's license, you know how difficult and time-consuming it can be to get a replacement. There are a few steps you need to take to get a replacement. First, you'll need to file a police report to have documentation of the theft. Then, you can head to your local Department of Driver Services office or visit their website to begin the process of getting a new license. You can replace your license at the Georgia Department of Driver Services in three ways: online, by mail, or in person.

First, you can choose to replace your license on the DDS 2 Go Moblie APP by filling out an application and paying a fee. You will also need to provide identification documents, such as a birth certificate or passport. Once your application is processed, you will receive your new license in the mail. In order to use the online option:

  • You must hold only a regular non-commercial License, ID, or Permit.
  • If your license is Suspended, Cancelled, or Revoked, you can only replace your ID card or Limited Permit.
  • You must be a Georgia resident.
  • You must be a US Citizen.
  • Your current license, ID, or permit must be a Real ID document. (Have a gold or black star printed in the upper right-hand corner.)

You can request a replacement form from the DDS website. One is required to fill out a form and return it to the address provided, along with a check or money order for the replacement fee. Once your application is processed, you will receive your new license in the mail.

If you don't have a real id or just don't want to do it online, you can replace your license in person, visit any DDS office with proof of identity, and pay the replacement fee. The application gets processed, and one receives a new license on the spot.
