NV DMV Says Customers Can Lessen Wait Times by Making Appointments Online

With summer over and more and more people resuming their everyday routines, Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles officials reminds the public that they can drastically shorten their wait time at DMV locations by making appointments on the agency’s website. Speaking with reporters, Robin Allender, who works as the division administrator for the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles field services, says that making an appointment with the DMV online has many benefits, the most crucial being that customers will know that they will be served when they arrive at one of the agency’s offices.

Allender continues by noting that agency staff gives customers who have appointments priority. In contrast, walk-ins are only served if no one is in the appointment queue. Because of the high demand for DMV services, Allender explains that many walk-ins are turned away at agency offices. Allender adds that many of these customers come to the DMV with transactions that do not require the help of agency staff to complete. Instead, many transactions can be completed on the Nevada DMV’s website or using one of the agency’s kiosks. Allender recommends that customers check to see if their transaction can be completed online. If the transaction requires the help of agency staff, Allender says that customers should go ahead and make an appointment online.

In looking at wait times for walk-in customers at the DMV, Allender says that walk-ins are often turned away due to staff shortages and increased demand for agency services. While the agency is training new workers, Allender says that DMV customers can help mitigate wait times by canceling their appointments if they cannot come to the DMV at their selected time. In examining statistics from June, Allender says that although 93,000 customers made appointments with the DMV, only 52 percent arrived for their slot.
