New York DMV Returns to the Great New York State Fair with Mobile Office, Online Services and Custom Plates

The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is packing up its mobile office and heading back to the Great New York State Fair. In a news release dated Aug. 19, 2025, DMV officials announced that staff would again be onsite at the fair to help visitors complete essential transactions and learn more about the agency’s services. The DMV’s annual appearance at the fair underscores its push to make motor vehicle transactions easier by meeting people where they are and showcasing new online tools.
This year the DMV’s mobile office will operate inside the Center of Progress Building from August 20 through September 1, coinciding with the run of the fair. Fairgoers can stop by to access more than 70 online transactions, such as scheduling a road test, applying for or renewing a learner permit or non‑driver ID, and completing license and registration renewals. DMV representatives will assist people with using the agency’s online transaction portal and answer questions about Real ID requirements, the Digital ID pilot program and other initiatives. Visitors can even take an on‑site vision screening for license renewal and learn about ways to replace a damaged or lost photo document. Those interested in customizing their vehicles can browse the DMV’s specialty plates and order the new official Great New York State Fair license plate, which features the fair’s logo and is available for passenger vehicles as a standard or personalized plate【401163150948317†screenshot】【877882232533106†screenshot】.
DMV Commissioner Mark J.F. Schroeder said the state fair is a perfect opportunity to bring DMV services directly to the public. By staffing a mobile office with computers and printers, employees can walk customers through online processes and reduce the need for future trips to a DMV office. The agency also highlights its Real ID document guide, an online tool that helps New Yorkers confirm which documents they need to bring if they plan to upgrade to a Real ID or Enhanced license. Fairs are a fun, accessible venue to encourage people to make the switch before the federal Real ID enforcement date, and the DMV hopes to demystify the process by answering questions in person.
Besides transaction help, the DMV booth will feature demonstrations of mobile DMV services and information about the agency’s safety campaigns. Visitors can pick up brochures on topics ranging from seat belt compliance to motorcycle safety and register for organ donation on the Donate Life registry. A working display of the DMV’s Real ID Document Guide will show how to use the online checklist to ensure you have the right proofs of identity, Social Security and residency before visiting a DMV office【401163150948317†screenshot】. DMV officials remind fairgoers that bringing the proper documentation speeds up in‑person visits and that many tasks can be completed remotely by visiting dmv.ny.gov from home.
By offering a comprehensive slate of digital services at a high‑traffic event, the New York DMV hopes to demonstrate how simple and convenient online transactions can be. The agency encourages anyone attending the fair to stop by, learn about Real ID, and check out the new Great New York State Fair plate. Even those who don’t need to conduct a transaction can take advantage of free vision screenings and chat with DMV representatives about upcoming changes in driver licensing. With a growing menu of online services and a mobile office designed to serve customers on the go, the DMV’s presence at the fair reflects its ongoing commitment to accessibility and customer service.
