Lieutenant Governor Antonio Delgado and New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Commissioner Mark J.F. Schroeder celebrated the grand opening of the new Harlem DMV office, located at 5 West 125th Street (Martin Luther King Boulevard), near the corner of 5th Avenue.

The new office replaces a previous location further down 125th Street and is designed to provide a more streamlined customer experience. Features include an information screen directing customers to their destinations, improved seating and counter space, and a dedicated area for new drivers to take their permit tests, including commercial driver's permits. The DMV aims to complete most transactions in 30 minutes or less.

Commissioner Schroeder expressed excitement about the new space, commending the hard work of the staff and colleagues involved in planning and implementing the new office. Lt. Gov. Delgado highlighted the importance of the new facility in providing excellent resources and customer service to Harlem and Northern Manhattan residents, ensuring a smooth DMV experience.

The Harlem office is part of the DMV's ongoing transformation initiative, which aims to modernize technology and streamline customer service options. The goal is to change New Yorkers' perceptions of the DMV by providing simplified, effective, and responsive services.

The plan focuses on making the DMV less complicated for customers and employees, offering more ways for customers to interact with the agency, and simplifying transactions and services to avoid repeat visits. In addition to physical changes in DMV offices, the agency is working to improve its website, expand online transactions, increase community access to DMV services, and launch new digital services, such as a digital pre-screen process for customers applying for a REAL ID or enhanced driver's license.
