License or ID in Arkansas Renewal
The length of time an AR license or ID is valid depends on your age. If you are:
- Under 21 years old: Your license will expire one month after your 21st birthday. You may renew on your 21st birthday at the earliest.
- Between 21 and 68 years old: Your license is valid for 8 years. You can renew up to 1 year before expiration.
- 69 years old or older: Your license will be valid for either 4 or 8 years. You may renew up to 1 year before expiration.
How to Renew an Arkansas License or ID
When it’s time to renew your Arkansas driver’s license OR non-driver ID, you’ll need to visit your local State Revenue office. You can sign up online for an email or text reminder to renew your ID.
When you visit the office, bring your:
- Current license or ID.
- Glasses or contacts in case you have to take a vision test (for a driver’s license).
- REAL ID documents if you need to obtain a REAL ID for the first time.
- Payment for the applicable renewal fee.
If you hold a non-excepted commercial driver’s license (CDL), you may additionally be required to provide your medical certification.
If your license has already expired, you may be required to pass a written test to renew your license.
AR License or ID Renewal Fees
- 8-year driver’s license (21 years old or older): $40.00
- Non-driver ID: $5.00
- Driver’s license (under 21 years old): License cost is prorated.
- 4-year driver’s license (optional for people 69 years old or older): $20.00
