Renew a Rhode Island Vehicle Registration
Rhode Island drivers must renew vehicle registrations each year. There are a few different ways to renew a vehicle registration. You may renew:
- Online
- By mail.
- At a DMV Drop box.
Before renewing your vehicle, make sure you have no outstanding taxes due or you will not be able to complete your registration renewal.
Renew Rhode Island Car Registration Online
The easiest way to renew a vehicle registration in Rhode Island is by using the Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) website. The type of license plate on your vehicle will let you know if it is eligible for online renewal. Most passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, and motorcycles can be renewed online*.
- Visit the online portal.
- Provide the requested information. This will include your:
- Vehicle registration or renewal notice.
- Insurance card.
- Provide your credit card information and billing address.
- Print your receipt.

Renew RI Registration by Mail or at a Drop Box
Renewal by mail is another convenient option. To renew by mail:
- Complete the renewal notice you received in the mail or complete an Application for Registration and Title Certificate (TR-1).
- Provide a check for the requested amount.
